What began as a showcase centered on galleries and exhibitions, Modern and Contemporary Art Festival (MoCAF) has steadily evolved into an ecosystem where visual artists, artisans, designers, food entrepreneurs, performers, educators, and audiences all occupy the same space. Walking through this year’s festival meant moving between exhibitions, creative workshops, artist talks, independent brands, and conversations that extended far beyond the artworks hanging on the walls.

Language often reveals what a society values. ‍In English, gender appears almost immediately with conversations requiring people to be identified as “he” or "she.” Every story asks for clarification with its sentences quietly categorizing the subject. ‍Tagalog works differently. We have “siya.” One word with no gender requirement. 

Ten years ago, That Elephant Party began with music. There was a sound Shahanih Gania wanted to hear through a space they wanted to exist. A version of nightlife that felt closer to the communities they were a part of.

In 2025, one Australian dancer made the trip to Manila to experience House 2 House (H2H). This year, eleven did. On paper, that might seem like a small number, but for a community-driven dance culture built on shared experiences and exchange, it signals something much bigger than attendance figures.

Every month, a new collaboration appears online. A Filipino artist works with a producer in Melbourne. A designer in Sydney commissions an illustrator in Manila. A dancer in Quezon City flies to Brisbane for a residency. A photographer from Perth finds inspiration in Cebu.

Before it had a name, [Dante & Amigo](https://www.instagram.com/dantexamigo/) were just two friends in a room passing time. They had known each other since high school. Back then, music was something they did in between everything else. They played around with beats, wrote verses for their own entertainment and moved on with their day.

As fuel prices fluctuate across global markets, the impact is felt far from refineries, reshaping how Filipinos cook, eat, and gather.

For Agatha “Aga” Gutierrez, dance was never part of the plan. She started in high school, following the example set by her older sister, Maxine, the dancer in the family who would perform at school and community events. Growing up in a household of five sisters and one brother, creativity often passed from one woman to another. Before they were a band, they were just four eldest daughters trying to survive adulthood. Asian Panganay began as a solo idea. Angeli Eluna had been writing songs out of frustration – about family pressure, about being the eldest daughter in a Filipino household, about carrying expectations that rarely get spoken about but are always felt. She didn’t want to write from a place that felt borrowed. If she was going to make music, it had to come from something real.

Every artist eventually arrives at the question of identity. For John Prosper, the answer wasn’t overcomplicated. “I wanted my creativity to prosper,” he says simply. “And it sounded cool.” John Prosper started as a wish, a quiet intention for growth, for movement, for something in his life to expand beyond where it was. Over time, it became more than an alias.

Most of us move through two main environments each day. Home. Work. We move between these two spaces with increasing efficiency, navigating digital calendars, shared documents, and algorithmic feeds that compress distance and time. But there's a third domain that rarely receives the same attention: the shared spaces where community quietly forms.

The creative industry has always lived inside cycles of disruption. Photography unsettled painters, digital flattened production hierarchies, social media redefined distribution. But now, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is doing something subtler and perhaps more unsettling: it is making execution abundant.

On January 25, 2026, Unfold Studios PH transformed into a battleground of style, creativity, and community as Prelude PH staged Resistance, a one-day dance battle that proved why the local scene continues to thrive.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ early hunger for success pushed him into the center of hip-hop’s explosion, where Bad Boy Entertainment shaped the sound and careers of artists who defined an era.

Last September 20, A.bode Café opened its doors to a crowd of musicians, artists, and creatives for the launch of LUMI’s newest album, Intimate. Known as a Filipino lifestyle space with coffee, food, and art, A.bode has long been a home for the arts – the same space where IV of Spades shot their music video for Konsensya. And from that music video to this launch night, A.bode becomes a backdrop for stories told through sound.

There’s something about leaving the city together that changes how people show up. Maybe it’s the salt in the air, maybe it’s the long drive, or maybe it’s simply the fact that you’re no longer rushing to the next meeting. And this La Union trip automatically became our reset.
